MCDFNL Round 10 Netball Preview Maryborough Giants vs Harcourt
Maryborough’s quest for their third consecutive finals appearance hits an intriguing junction this Saturday when they host an emboldened Harcourt.
It may have been more tense than they would’ve liked, but the Giants eventually cooled a striking Maldon comeback last weekend to procure a valuable four points that keep them within touching distance of the top eight.
While Riahni Egan and Macey Parry continued their impactful season on defence, Maryborough young gun Bridget Allan stole the show in the attacking goal circle.
The MCDFNL 18 and under representative has shown flashes of her exciting potential during her inaugural A grade campaign, but last Saturday was a breakthrough performance, scoring 22 goals off just 28 attempts.
Maryborough player-coach Laura McStravick will also enter Saturday’s encounter following a strong showing against the Bombers, as the shooting tandem prepares to match up against Harcourt’s Laura Suckling and Carly Chaplin.
The Lions’ defensive duo was instrumental in their landmark victory over Newstead last weekend, with their excellent rebounding and timely interceptions limiting the Steaders to 25 goals.
Midcourters Morgan Howorth, Zoe Mclean and Ursula van Dyk turned those takeaways into scoring opportunities for Jordan Bagley and Jarrenhy Webb, who routinely delivered despite the treacherous conditions.
Egan will likely be tasked with the important job of marking Webb, who has been a valued addition to Harcourt’s attacking third this season.
