MCDFNL Round 10 Netball Preview Dunolly vs Trentham
Trentham’s trip to Dunolly is set to pit two teams who have risen the ranks after missing out on finals last year against each other as they attempt to solidify their finals dreams.
The Eagles and Saints have had almost identical trajectories this season. Boosted by three-game winning streaks against Maldon, Harcourt and Campbells Creek, both teams sit inside the top eight with a 4-4 record.
However, with the ninth-placed Maryborough Giants level on points with Talbot in eighth, who sit just points behind the Saints and Eagles after they defeated Trentham, a defeat for either team would put their finals hopes under some jeopardy.
Matching their eerily similar seasons, Trentham and Dunolly showed great promise against two teams that made the preliminary final in 2025, yet couldn’t complete a round nine upset.
The Saints actually recorded more shot attempts against Talbot as they looked to reverse a seven-goal half time deficit, but inaccuracy plagued their comeback, and they eventually fell eight goals short.
While shooters Lara Clements and Hannah Kenny were shooting extremely well last weekend against Carisbrook, Dunolly couldn’t carry their strong first half into the third and fourth quarters, where they were outscored 29-15.
Dunolly and Trentham showed promise of their 2026 ascendancy during last year’s round two thriller that resulted in a 51-51 draw. With both teams boosted by several off-season additions, another enthralling encounter looks to be on the cards.
