MCDFNL Round 10 Football Preview Lexton vs Carisbrook
Lexton Recreation Reserve will see Lexton hosts premiership favourite Carisbrook in a clash that could have significant implications on the finals picture.
Carisbrook enters the contest in ominous form despite being pushed all the way by Talbot two weeks ago. The Redbacks responded strongly last weekend with a commanding 95-point victory over Dunolly, restricting the Eagles to just one goal for the match. Tim Rinaldi continued his outstanding season with five goals and has now kicked 25 goals in his last four matches.
The Redbacks have been devastating in recent weeks, averaging more than 135 points per game over their last four wins. Patrick Taranto, Jackson Bowen, Michael Zelencich, Thomas Gardam, and Mitchell Treacy have all been key contributors in what has been a dominant season to date.
Lexton, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing 43-point loss to Navarre. The Tigers struggled to get going in that contest and managed just one behind in the first half.
Despite that defeat, Lexton has enjoyed a reasonable season and remains firmly in finals contention. Jaxon Thomas has been a major weapon in attack, while Eric Wilkinson, Thomas McGregor, Billy Briody, and Justin Kennedy have all been consistent performers.
The key battle could be Lexton’s defence against the potent Carisbrook forward line. Rinaldi has been in career-best form, while the Redbacks have multiple avenues to goal through Cooper Driscoll, Ricky Pearson, Taranto, and others.
