MCDFNL netballers end interleague with a bang
The MCDFNL’s 15 and under representative team produced a stunning showcase at Netball Victoria’s predominant pathway competition on Sunday.
After finishing runners-up at last month’s Western Association Championships, some of the MCDFNL’s most talented junior netballers travelled to Parkville’s State Netball Centre on June 21 for the Netball Victoria Association Championships Finals Day.
Coached by Natte Bealiba’s Sian Mortlock, the 15 and under squad had representatives from six different MCDFNL clubs.
For nearly seven hours, the MCDFNL battled some of the finest netball leagues in the state, including Altona, Bendigo, Casey and Wimmera, in a round robin tournament.
After starting their campaign with encouraging defeats to Northern and Hampden, the MCDFNL earned their first victory against the Bairnsdale Netball Association 17-10.
Despite the gruelling schedule, the MCDFNL ended their tournament on a high note, defeating the Waverley District Netball Asso-ciation 12-6 to finish a landmark tournament berth in a highly respectable 10th.
The MCDFNL’s 13 and under and 17 and under teams were also in action last weekend, participating in the Heathcote District Football Netball League Gala Day.
The 13 and under’s were highly competitive throughout the day against the North Central, Heath-cote and Loddon Valley Football Netball League’s but fell just short of a deserved victory.
Talbot standout Cobi Kaye was consistently excellent for the under 13’s, named the team’s MVP.
The 17 and under’s also show-cased their immense potential on Sunday, finishing the competition with a 10-goal victory over Loddon Valley after close defeats to Heathcote and North Central.
Navarre defender Chloe Cassidy was a constant headache for opposing attackers, winning the MVP award for the MCDFNL.
