MCDFNL Round 16 Football Preview — Maldon vs Avoca
Maldon have the difficult task of hosting an undefeated Avoca outfit on the hunt for another premiership this weekend at Bill Woodfull Reserve.

It’s a mammoth of an undertaking for Maldon, currently winless for season 2026, to stare down the barrel of titan-like Avoca on their crusade for premiership glory.
Although the favourites by a country mile, Avoca have shown time and again this season that they take their netball seriously and will apply pressure early and consistently to all but nullify Maldon.
For the home side, onlookers may think the game is already run and done. But Saturday’s match gives Maldon the opportunity to try new things and measure their worth against the best team in the league’s recent history.
While bottom of the ladder is not a place any side wants to find itself, Maldon has done so with plenty of grit.
Despite a so far winless season, the Bombers have come agonisingly close to securing that elusive victory — missing out by just three goals when they hosted Campbells Creek in round 12.
While that has shown their determination on the court, it may not be enough to stem Avoca’s onslaught come Saturday.
When both sides last met in round three it was the Bulldogs who charged out of the gate, outscoring and outperforming Maldon at every turn to win by a comfortable 50 goals.
The challenge for Maldon’s key players Sophie Zammit, Alannah Furmston and Charlotte Harrison will be to bridge that gap with Avoca.
Avoca’s shooting tandem of Maddy Egan and Gina Steel could be in for an electrifying encounter — with the pair scoring a combined 928 goals this season.
Supported by a tried and tested side, Avoca enter Saturday’s clash as the major favourites, looking to boost their percentage on the cusp of finals.
