Maryborough under 16 cricketers celebrate a wicket on Saturday as they looked to maintain their undefeated run in the Castlemaine and District Cricket Association junior competition. However, it was to no avail, eventually going down by 31 runs.

Maryborough’s under 16s undefeated run has come to an end in their semi-final, and will miss out on a grand final berth after losing to North Castlemaine/Guildford by 31 runs.

Batting first, North Castlemaine/ Guildford were guided well by Max Matheson, who scored 63 to help them reach 121 off their allotted innings.

Jasper Trickey bowled superbly in the middle stages of the innings, claiming 4/18 off six overs to bring the Owls right back into contention.

Other wicket takers saw Jaxon Carmody take 1/6 off four overs, Oliver Cassidy take 1/11 off six overs, Lachie Condie take 1/20 off three overs and Sam Ross take 1/25 off seven overs.

Condie also took a remarkable diving catch during the fielding innings, which was a highlight of the game for the Owls.

In response, Maryborough were unable to get away quickly, with the tight line that was bowled by North Castlemaine/Guildford meaning that the Owls were struggling to score above two runs an over for the large majority of the innings.

Lachlan Roche and Condie provided some good resistance at the top of the order, scoring 13 and 14 respectively, but Roche’s removal meant that the Owls were sitting on 4/38.

Cassidy provided some good middle order hitting, top-scoring with 16, but his removal with the score on 81 essentially sealed the game, with Maryborough losing their last two wickets and bowled out for 90 off 35.2 overs.
