Set to take place at the Maryborough Sports & Leisure Centre this Sunday, April 13, the event will have something for everyone with different courses and categories on offer.

Athletes will compete in either the long course format which involves a 2 km run, 8 km cycle (2 x 4 km loop), and 400 m swim (16 laps of the pool), or the short course’s 1 km run, 4 km cycle, and 200 m swim (eight laps).

Categories include male and female open, U16 male and female as well as the male and female 50 plus categories.

Maryborough Triathlon Club secretary Jenny Barras said the event is open to everyone and encouraged locals to get involved, regardless of ability.

“We’re open to everyone, we’re all about coming and trying and we try to cater for people’s different abilities,” she said.

“As the weather is getting colder we’ve reversed the triathlon so people are swimming last and they’re not out running in the cold while they’re wet.

“Triathlon is a rewarding sport and the club we have is very supportive, we’re a family club and we encourage people to come over and try this out.”

Registrations will open at 9 on Sunday for the event with a 9.30 am start.

For further information or to get involved, contact Jenny Barras on 0423 495 768.
