Maryborough will be looking to finish the season strongly by recording a fourth win when they take on Strathfieldsaye on Saturday.
While neither team has much to gain out of this contest, a confidence boost for the 2024 season will be greatly appreciated, and the Magpies would benefit from a fourth win.
They showed they were able to keep up with a finals contender last week for long stages of the game, sticking to within 13 goals of South Bendigo by half time, before the Bloods showed their mettle and shot away, scoring 37 goals in the second half to eventually record a 35-goal win.
The form of Tali Chadwick has been a bright positive for Maryborough throughout the season, and she continued to show that she is a star of the future with a good performance, while Keely Hare finished with 23 goals.
The Magpies will look to improve on their 30-goal loss to the Storm in round eight.
However, the second half of that game should give Maryborough a lot of confidence to attack the Storm right from the outset.
While they were disappointed to be down by 23 goals at half time in that game, the Magpies were able to score 25 goals in the second half as they remained with the Storm throughout.
A repeat performance of that half will give the Magpies a good chance of securing a much-needed win.
Elsewhere, the B grade team will look to cause an upset, with Strathfieldsaye currently battling hard with South Bendigo and Eaglehawk for a spot in the finals, with the Storm just miniscule percentage ahead of the Hawks in fifth.
B reserve will face the fourth-placed Storm as they look for their first win of the season.
The 17 and under team will have an incredibly important assignment against the Storm, with a victory securing their finals spot.
The Magpies sit two games and percentage ahead of Castlemaine inside the top five with two games remaining, but more importantly, they can set a mental blow, given that Strathfieldsaye will most likely be their opponent in the first week of the finals.
Adding some complexity to this clash, their last meeting was a draw, so expect this game to go right down to the wire.
