Maryborough’s star athletes on show at state titles
There were some terrific results for Maryborough Little Athletics athletes in the recent Primary School Sports Victoria State Championships.
The club’s Jomal Nicholson, who represented Castlemaine North Primary School, competed in the under 12-13 800 m B class, running a time good enough for 15th in the state with a time of 2.54.92.
The Maryborough Education Centre’s (MEC) Nathaniel Jacobs had a terrific time in both the 100 m and 200 m sprints for the under 12-13 B class.
Jacobs was good enough to earn a silver medal in the 200 m, but in his heats, broke the state record, running 25.01, which broke a 16-year old record.
He also took fourth place in the 100 m final with a time of 12.87.
This followed some other terrific results in the All Schools Champ-ionships between Maryborough Little Athletics members.
Naomi Henderson finished fourth in triple jump for the under 17 girls, representing MEC and jumping 10.59 m, while finishing with a bronze medal in the 100 m hurdles thanks to a time of 18.75.
Charlie Sullivan, also repre-senting MEC, finished sixth in both the 100 m and 200 m finals, where he backed up from a fourth place and bronze in the School Sports Victoria State Championship.
Cassidy Miller had a terrific weekend in the under 20 girls, earning a bronze medal in the discus with a throw of 25.53 m, while securing silver in the shot put with a throw of 8.94 m.
Mia Schodde also represented MEC in both long jump and high jump.
Schodde finished in bronze in the under 14 girls high jump, equalling a personal best of 1.55 m, while her long jump form saw her claim 15th in the state with a jump of 4.53 m.
