From Sunday, July 26, Victoria Police will be reducing their front counter hours.

Maryborough Police Station will remain open on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm but patrol responses for police will not change.

Maryborough police station reception will therefore be closed on Tuesdays and Sundays.

Instead, police are aiming for an improved response by already being on the road.

Acting Senior Sergeant Matthew Ormston said the decision to reduce public counter hours means police can put more presence into the community to prevent and detect crime.

“This is an organisational change. We are trying to put more members where they are needed, out on the road, as opposed to working behind the counter,” he said.

“The community can expect to see more patrols throughout Maryborough, and we hope to see more engagement from police with the community.”

Maryborough Police will continue to provide a 24/7 response to the community, with units continuing to work and deploy from the station at all hours of the day.

The community can report non-urgent crime online or call the Police Assistance Line on 131 444.

For an urgent police response in an emergency, the community is always urged to call Triple Zero (000), rather than visit a police station.
