Maryborough will be looking to get back on track this weekend, although it will be a difficult assignment against the fourth-placed Castlemaine.
Unfortunately for the Magpies, four losses in a row has seen their finals dream steadily slip away, now sitting two and a half games behind South Bendigo in fifth.
But they will be looking to get closer this weekend to taking a scalp, having had a competitive outing against Castlemaine in their previous meeting in round one, having lost by 10 goals.
Last week, it was an equally tough game for the club as they came up against Gisborne, where the Bulldogs showcased their power to win by 45 goals to preserve their spot in the top two.
Make no mistake, it’s been tough in recent weeks for the Magpies, but with a very young squad, it’s also been about learning for many of their younger players.
In recent weeks, Abbey Nalder has started to make an impression as a goal shooter, and against the Bulldogs, was able to top score for the Magpies with 15 goals.
Tali Chadwick, Finley Wagstaff and Alex Williams continues to put in good performances on the court as well. At the moment, they’re the positives for the Magpies as they continue to get games and experience at the top level.
The last time these two met, Maryborough had a competitive outing throughout the afternoon, but a fast start by Castlemaine, which saw them establish a five-goal break at quarter time, allowed them to keep the Magpies at bay throughout the afternoon.
Elsewhere in the netball department, the 17 and under squad will be looking to bounce back from their loss to Gisborne by looking for their second win against Castle-maine this season, having won by 26 goals in round one. The Magpies currently sit in fourth place, two games inside the top five, and will simultaneously look to keep in touch with the double chance.
B grade and B reserve will also be looking for their first victories of the season. B grade came desperately close to a win in the opening game in their last meeting with Castlemaine, with a draw the result, while B reserve were similarly close, losing by eight goals in the opening round.
