Gisborne flexed their muscle to defeat Maryborough by 45 goals on Saturday, but it wasn’t without the Magpies putting in effort.
The Bulldogs were just better at executing their chances in front of goal, and were able to control the midcourt throughout the game.
Gisborne scored 16 goals in the first quarter, while holding Maryborough to four, with Abbey Nalder scoring all four goals for the Magpies.
In the second quarter, Maryborough had their best quarter of the day, with Gisborne outscoring them by 10 goals, scoring 17 goals to seven. Nalder added another four goals, while Keely Hare got on the board with three.
The third quarter was similar to the first, with the Bulldogs clearing away again to score another 16 goals to four to open up a 34-goal lead at the last change. Nalder scored three goals, while Hare added one.
The last quarter saw the Bulldogs add 19 goals, while Maryborough had their best offensive quarter of the day with eight goals, with Nalder and Hare both scoring on four occasions.
While Maryborough remain in eighth position, it was a reasonably competitive affair at times against the second-placed Bulldogs, which will give them some confidence ahead of the second half of the season, which starts this weekend with a trip to fourth-placed Castlemaine.
Elsewhere in the netball, it was a tricky day for Maryborough, with all four teams going down to the Bulldogs. The 17 and under team lost by 22 goals, while B reserve lost by 15 goals. B grade lost by 67 goals to round out a tough day on the court.
