Community members across Maryborough have been left frustrated following a recent egging incident — with multiple properties vandalised in High Street this month.
The episode, which took place on the weekend of September 1 and September 2, saw numerous cars and houses on High Street, including the Ol Pinkys Pizza store, defaced with eggs.
For the pizza shop that has also been egged in the past, the incident is the latest in a string of events that have impacted the establishment — and now, owner Muhammad Usman Waqas is considering the harrowing possibility of closure.
“I’m really disappointed at this stage. I’ve been facing this for a while, it’s been going on for a long time,” Mr Waqas said.
“Our cars have been smashed before and we’ve also got a lot of negative false comments on Facebook and today if they’re damaging my property, what if tomorrow they hurt someone in the shop.
“It’s really sad because I feel like if this keeps happening, at the end of the day I might have to shut my business and that will impact all the people I have employed.”
Despite the continued vandalism, Mr Waqas said the community’s support has played a huge part in keeping the shop going.
“I think the reason I’m still here is because a lot of people have stood up for the business,” he said.
“A lot of people also ring us, they give us a courtesy call to support us and check in on us.
“It makes us feel very good but we don’t know how much longer we can go on, I just want the people responsible for damaging my property to stop.”
Alongside Ol Pinkys, Mary-borough resident Dale Anderson’s High Street house was also vandalised on the same weekend — with eggs and rocks thrown at his property.
“Many places were impacted and it’s [terrible],” Mr Anderson said.
“This was the first time my house was egged and it was very frustrating.
“I just want it stopped.”
Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident and are urging witnesses or additional victims to come forward with more information.
