Maryborough Disability Expo on next week
A buzzing new opportunity for locals to access support services, network, and meet new faces will pop up in Maryborough at next week’s Disability Expo.
Organised by Rivergum Support, the expo has been created to bring support services available in Maryborough all to the one place.
Organisations to feature will include Bendigo Community Health, Riding for the Disabled, Venture Care, Asuria, Wattle Tree Support Service, Ace Allied Health, Asteria and many more.
Director of Rivergum Support Kaitlyn Howell is excited to see the event showcase local disability service providers and community organisations.
“I think it’s going to be amazing to have so many service providers in the one place at the one time so people with a disability, whether they have NDIS funding or not, are able to see the services on offer to them in our local area,” she said.
“Not only will it be a fantastic networking event for providers, which is so crucial being a small town, it’s also to see faces behind the organisation, and hopefully learn about what’s actually in the area.”
The free event is inviting people living with a disability, their families and carers, support coordinators and providers, to connect with a vast range of passionate organisations from the shire and surrounds.
“We have service providers that provide direct disability or direct NDIS support to people with disabilities, we also have a job network coming, Run for the Disabled, allied health groups, behavioural support practitioners and organisations that provide mental health and wellbeing support,” Ms Howell said.
She said it was time for the town to host an epicentre of support services that locals may not have already realised are here.
“Maryborough always missed out on things ... it was really off the back of having a lot of conversations with different people about how it would be great for something like this to happen in Maryborough, so we thought ‘lets just do it’,” Ms Howell said.
“To be networking about what is in the area, or what gaps we might be able to fill in a collective way, it’s great, and to see faces behind organisations and just have a chat with some people and learn about what is in the area.
“Maybe people didn’t know some providers who may not be based in Maryborough, but they service Maryborough, and that’s really important.”
While the event is free to attend, registration is available via Eventbrite to assist with planning.
“Rotary will be providing a barbecue, it’s a free event, and we have moved it from the Community Hub to the Basketball court behind the shire building on Nolan Street, so it will be one big accessible space,” Ms Howell said.
“It’s just a good day out, and a chance to say g’day to a whole new group of people.”
The Maryborough Disability Expo, will be held on Thursday, March 19 from 10 am to 2 pm.
