Carisbrook’s Martin Mark during his 102 not out on Saturday, the first century of the MDCA season.

Four games were completed, while a fifth was denied a conclusion in what looked to be a battle that was going down to the wire in A reserve.

Colts Phelans kept up their unbeaten start to the season thanks to a five wicket victory over Talbot.

The Yabbies were only able to make 93 runs, most of them being guided by Karl Gunther, who made 41 not out against the tide.

Ethan Chaplin was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2/11, while Callum Watts and David Forde also took two wickets apiece.

Colts’ innings remained consistent throughout, with five batsmen scoring above 10 runs. Matt Scott scored 30, while Ed Foreman and Dean Walker scored 15 runs each.

Anton Roche was the pick of Talbot’s bowlers, taking 2/25.

Clunes proved much too strong for Laanecoorie Dunolly, winning by 116 runs.

The innings was guided by Fred Penhall, who used a 92-run partnership with Mark Jenkin to help the Magpies take control, with the former top-scoring with 76. Alongside Jenkin’s 38, it helped the Magpies finish on 6/201.

Jacob Meyer tried hard for Laane in the wake of the Clunes run-scoring machine, taking 3/36 off his seven overs.

In response, Laane had no answer after a solid start, losing all their wickets for 57 runs after starting at 0/28 to be rolled for 85.

Brenton Jones took 3/5 off 3.1 overs, while Jenkin and Denis Bacon took 2/23 apiece.

Natte Yallock bounced back from their loss to MKM by easing their way past Avoca, winning by eight wickets.

The Mortlock family feasted on the Bulldogs, with Trent scoring 27 runs and taking 3/16, while Kurt top-scored for the Swans with 30 not out. Zac also took 2/10 to be a solid contributor off six overs, as Natte Yallock’s 2/82 was more than enough to run down Avoca’s 78 with 13 overs to spare.

Ben Morganti played a lone hand for the Bulldogs, top-scoring with 36 runs.

The first century of the season was scored by Martin Mark in Carisbrook’s 91-run victory over MKM.

Mark’s 102 not out was achieved late in Brook’s innings, and alongside William Coutts’ 36, were able to guide Brook to 4/191 off their 40 overs.

In response, MKM were always on the back foot, losing wickets consistently without having an anchor to keep them in the game. Mohammed Haseeb Khan top scored with 17 as the Mill were only able to muster 100 runs in response.

The Beaufort and Maryborough game was called off early due to rain, robbing both teams of an exciting finish.

The Owls made 5/139 off their 40 overs, with Lachlan Bursill the mainstay throughout the innings, scoring 56 runs, while Mick Malik scored 27.

Nicholas Stares and Malcolm Woolley were good contributors with the ball, taking two wickets each for the Crows.

In response, Blair Ross went haywire with the ball, taking four wickets from his first two overs for just six runs to leave Beaufort at 5/32, but with Woolley and Noah Scofield at the crease, they were able to put on a 28-run partnership. But with rain taking over in the 25th over, the call was made to declare the match a draw.

In this week’s A reserve games, top team Carisbrook will be hosting Talbot, while Colts Phelans will be looking to keep on Brook’s trail when they host Natte Yallock.

MKM and Laanecoorie Dunolly will be looking to bounce back when they meet at Mr Mobility Oval, as will Beaufort and Avoca when they are set to meet at the Beaufort Football Ground.

Finally, Maryborough and Clunes will meet at Jubilee Oval, with Clunes sitting just half a game away from top spot.
