A man caught driving at 109km/h in a 60 zone this week has had his vehicle impounded and will appear before court, with local police frustrated by the poor display of driver behaviour.
Police were driving into Carisbrook from Maryborough on Tuesday at around 5.45 pm, when they detected a man in his 20s driving a Holden Commodore at 109km/h in a 60 zone.
Police intercepted the vehicle and impounded it for a 30-day period at a cost of $1655.
Maryborough Police First Constable Brad Warren described the incident as an example of poor decision making.
“Coming through a residential area at quarter to six at night when it’s likely there might be children or families out and about is a poor display of driver behaviour,” he said.
“Those driving decisions can lead to far-reaching impacts beyond just the driver themselves, it can have a significant affect on the community.
“I’d encourage all road users to think of not just themselves but the community before making decisions behind the wheel.”
The offender will be receiving a summons to attend court at a later date for exceeding the speed limit by 45km/h or more and will lose their licence for a period of 12 months.
