Maldon to seek finals revenge against Talbot
Maldon and Talbot will take to the court at the Bill Woodfull Recreation Reserve tomorrow for their annual Good Friday round.
Both sides come into the Easter round having suffered losses in their initial games this season, with Maldon losing out to a strong Lexton outfit by 56 points, while Talbot fought hard in a 25-point loss to Avoca.
While Maldon were caught on the back foot by a zealous Lexton, Talbot showed consistent play across all four quarters, going so far as to outscore reigning premiers Avoca in the final 15 minutes of play.
Heading into this Friday’s game it seems Talbot might be the favourites, but that shouldn’t rule Maldon out entirely.
The last time the two sides clashed was in last year’s qualifying finals, with Talbot taking a 12-point win to knock the Bombers out of a finals chance.
That result is likely a fresh memory for the side, who with a home ground advantage on Friday are a chance for redemption.
Maldon will look to control play from the first whistle on Friday through the efforts of rotating centres Claire Kelly and Sophie Bennett, into the safe hands of Alice McManus under the net.
Talbot on the other hand will look to the likes to Alicia McMurray and Eleisha Phelps in the attacking third, while Abbey Klemm will be a key player in defence.
