A brave Maryborough Rovers gave it everything in their final game, before Maldon proved much too strong with a big final term to blow the margin out to 69 points.
The Dons were able to put in a decent shift ahead of their elimination final match-up with Lexton next week.
They were able to get off to a fast start, kicking eight goals to two in the opening term to open up a 38-point lead at the first break.
It looked like the Dons would dominate proceedings, but to their credit, Rovers would take the game on and were able to chip away at the margin, kicking four straight goals to two to close the gap to 27 points at the main break.
The third quarter was a big battle, with Rovers trying to continue to close the gap, while Maldon looked to get through without any significant trouble. In the end, both teams kicked two goals apiece, with the margin 28 points at the final change.
Rovers were hoping to give a big account of themselves in their last quarter on the field, but it was not to be, with Maldon releasing the shackles and kicking nine goals to two to eventually run away with the game. The Brodie Leonard-Shannon and Rhys Ford combo was at their most dangerous at the right time of the year as they combined for 14 goals, while Jordon Collins, Noah Thompson, Seb Greene, Max Johns and impressive youngster Callum Buchanan were all named in the best.
Bailey Evans was best for Rovers, kicking two goals, while Tyler Lewis, Alex Mahony, Jacob Dyer, Marshall Murray and Montgomery Reeves were all named in their best.
