The Maldon Market is on the move, shifting back to its original site at the town’s neighbourhood centre after hopping around over the past nine years.
The market has been running for over a decade, beginning as a small community market at the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre before moving to the Maldon municipal gardens in 2013.
Market manager Lynn McShanag said the move was a way to re-brand and expand the market.
“Funding was sourced to re-brand and launch a bigger market, one that offered a broader range of stalls, focused on local sustainable product, and had a hand made and home grown philosophy,” she said.
“A new site was decided on at Fountain Street and the Maldon municipal gardens. Over the following years the market grew bigger and better, attracting thousands of visitors to our town every month.”
After COVID shut down the market for a number of months, a new location was needed to enable it to meet COVID restrictions, and it shifted to the Bill Woodfull Recreation Reserve — and has now come full circle heading back to the neighbourhood centre from this Sunday.
“Come along and celebrate our new home, the resilience of our lovely market and the community behind it,” Ms McShanag said.
“As it settles at the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre, this much-loved community institution will now truly be on home ground.”
The market will run this Sunday, August 14 at the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre located at 1 Church St, Maldon.
