Royal Park’s last game of the season saw them unfortunately go scoreless on a tough day, with Maldon securing a spot in the finals with a 64-point victory on a boggy Hedges Oval surface.
The Tigers had hoped for a more even contest on their home ground but were unpleasantly surprised by a ferocious Bombers side propelling itself into a solid finals campaign.
As Park didn’t get on the board, the score line was all Maldon which kicked 4.3 (27) to open, 2.5 (17) in the second, 1.4 (10) in the third and 1.4 (10) to close with an inaccurate total score of 8.16 (64).
David Wilson, Bryce Coffey, Coby Bennett, Max Johns, Hayden Coffey and Matt Gray claimed votes for Maldon on Saturday, with Bryce leading the way up forward with three goals.
For Bushy, Lauchlan Woodward, Darcy Bond, Luke Dunne, Matt Walker, Rhys Egan and Mark Ashmore claimed their last set of votes for the year, with Egan looking like the likeliest contender for the club’s best and fairest with votes in 13 of his 16 games.
Royal Park will finish in 11th place this season having won five from 16 games, while the issues in front of goal are something the now seventh ranked Maldon will have to fix quick-smart if it is to survive its first final with Lexton this weekend.
