Maldon have one foot in finals after Creek win
Maldon is on the precipice of officially qualifying for the MCDFNL finals following their convincing 109-point victory over Campbells Creek.

With a four-point lead and a 13 percentage advantage over ninth-placed Lexton, the Bombers now only need the Tigers to lose one of their last two games against Navarre or Carisbrook, or complete an upset over Harcourt in their final game of the home and away season.
Even if the Tigers win both their games and the Lions defeat the Bombers this Saturday, Maldon is still likely to advance, thanks to their superior percentage, aided by their win against the Magpies.
Maldon were dangerous in the first quarter, however, Campbells Creek’s tackling and pressure limited the impact on the scoreboard, trailing by 21 points at quarter time.
That began to change in the second quarter as Maldon developed an offensive groove.
Bailey Brown and Thomas Maxwell were spearheading a Bombers attack that was dangerous on multiple fronts, leading to the visitors finishing the game with 11 different goalkickers.
Seven unanswered goals in the second term allowed Maldon to take a commanding 66-point lead into half time, but Campbells Creek ensured the Bombers wouldn’t rest on their laurels when play resumed.
Nicholas O’Brien, Kyle Gellatly and Mitchell Stevens led the charge of an improved Magpies outfit to start the third quarter, allowing the hosts to boot four goals in the second half thanks to Dylan Stevens, Bailey Cooper, James Martinovic and Harley Young.
However, the Magpies couldn’t stop Maldon’s offensive momentum, who kicked seven goals in the final quarter to grab the four points which will very likely seal their spot inside the top eight.
Brown, Maxwell, Ash Humphrey, Natnael McLaren, Noah Thompson, Ashley Woodman and Damian Wust all finished with multiple goals for Maldon, with Brown leading the way with four majors.
In his third game for the club, Maxwell was outstanding, named among the visitors’ best players alongside Wust, Woodman, Darcy Kelly, Humphrey and Isaiah Hartley.
Campbells Creek listed O’Brien, Isaac Fletcher, Hadley Bassett, Kyle Gellatly, Mitchell Stevens and Matthew Cox as their best players.
