Maryborough’s 2023 season has been made a little clearer with the unveiling of the Bendigo Football Netball League (BFNL) fixture on Wednesday morning.
Coby Perry and Jordan MacIlwain’s first game as senior football and A grade netball coach respectively will come in their home opener against Castlemaine on April 15 in a battle of the BFNL Magpies.
They will follow up the next week in the first of their featured rounds for the season, with a trip to Eaglehawk for the ANZAC Day round, before hosting Kangaroo Flat in round three.
Round four will see them travel to Kyneton for the Pat Cronin Foundation round, while they will be hosting South Bendigo in the Indigenous round in round seven.
The King’s Birthday weekend sees the Magpies host a home game against Strathfieldsaye, while they will also host Kyneton for their return meeting in the TAC Road Safety round in round 13.
Other exciting games for the club will see the Magpies face Strathfieldsaye in rematches of their thrilling under 18 elimination final in both round eight and round 17, while the Magpies will be looking for a repeat of their 17 and under netball finals victory against Golden Square in rounds five and 14.
There will be two byes for the club this season. The first is a yet to be determined bye over the period from May 20 to May 27, with the BFNL stating in its media release that they were unable to complete negotiations with another league for a potential interleague clash.
The BFNL revealed that games will either be played on the weekend that interleague games will not be scheduled, or the option of a split round could be utilised.
The second bye will be the league’s general bye on the weekend of July 1.
The BFNL home-and-away season will run from April 15 to August 26, with finals to be played from Saturday, September 2 through to the grand final on September 23.
