It was a tough day for Maryborough as 2022 grand finalists Kangaroo Flat showed their class across the court.
Maryborough opened the game up well, and had their opportunities to keep up with the Kangaroos. They scored 10 goals in the opening quarter, with Keely Hare scoring six goals, and Jordan MacIlwain four, to trail by seven goals at the first break.
In the second quarter, the Kangaroos took control of the game as they started to control the midcourt, and generated many scoring opportunities.
They scored 21 goals for the quarter, while the Magpies were held to eight, with Hare and MacIlwain scoring four apiece, seeing the Kangaroos lead 38-18 at the main break.
The Kangaroos continued to take control as the second half started, shutting down any movement from the midcourt into the goal circle, and overall dominating the territory game.
It was a 16-goal to three quarter that saw the Kangaroos lead 54-21 at the final change.
Abbey Nalder came on to replace Hare throughout the final quarter and a half, and made a bit of an impact, getting some good chances in front of goal, where she scored five goals, with MacIlwain adding three, as Maryborough scored another eight goals.
It was not enough, however, to prevent Kangaroo Flat from scoring another 21 goals as the Kangaroos eventually won by 46 goals.
It proved to be a good learning curve for Maryborough’s young lineup, with Tori Chandler and MacIlwain named the best.
