Maryborough were unable to keep up with Strathfieldsaye on Saturday, with the Storm kicking 21 goals in the second half to win by 226 points at Barker Oval Princes Park.

The Magpies simply didn’t have an answer to the Storm’s leading goalkicker, James Schischka, who slotted 11 goals, with the Storm seeking to keep up with Sandhurst and Gisborne on top of the Bendigo Football Netball League ladder.

The Magpies were able to generate the opening scoring opportunity of the game through Seb Collins, but the big man narrowly missed.

From there, however, it was all the Storm, as they kicked six goals. However, they were also inaccurate, kicking 10 behinds as they led by 44 points at the opening change.

The Storm continued on their way in the second term, kicking seven goals, while Maryborough were at least able to hit the scoreboard through Fraser Russell, with the margin 86 points at the main break.

From there, however, the Storm turned up the wick, and with Maryborough going through more injury woe with six players injured during the course of the day, it was a pace where the Magpies were simply unable to match.

The Storm kicked 12 goals and had 23 scoring shots in the third term, increasing their lead to 167 points by the final change.

Another nine goals in the final term meant that the Storm were able to increase the margin past 200 points, and the ball lived in their front half for the balance of the afternoon as they enjoyed 64 scoring shots.

It was a very tough day for the Magpies, but captain Coby Perry continued to lead the way, while Kya Lanfranchi and Beau Trahar did well defensively under desperate pressure. Ash Humphrey, Josh Britten and Dylan Reece completed the best players for the Magpies.

There was no luck for the under 18s either, with the Magpies defeated by 20 points.

Four goals to two in the second quarter was the key difference for the Storm as they led by 18 points at the main break.

Logan Howell played a starring role defeat the loss, with Cooper Mark, Campbell Wood, Tyson Hoban, Judd Stevens and Sebastian Lambourn also named in the best.

The Magpies will now look to repeat their efforts against Castlemaine from round one, which saw them lead deep into the second term, when the two teams meet at Barker Oval Princes Park this weekend.
