Five hardworking locals were awarded for the efforts in their workplaces and community last week, receiving Pride of Workmanship awards from the Maryborough Rotary Club.

Brad Morris from Sonac, Liam Palling from Hendrickson Electrical, Jackson Barby from the Maryborough Harness Racing Club, Robyn Roth from Waste-Not Stockfeeders, and Sarah McClean from Mill House Neighbourhood House were presented with plaques for their outstanding contributions at a presentation night on May 9.

The Pride of Workmanship awards have been running since 1975, first launched at the Rotary District 9680 assembly and aim to encourage pride in personal performance in the workplace, and create a positive national attitude towards work.

Since it first ran, the program has been adopted by over 600 Rotary clubs in Australia and across the globe, including Maryborough, with the first local awards presented in 1983.

Maryborough Rotary’s Chair of Vocational Committee, Meryl James, said the look of the local awards has changed in recent years.

“From the year 2000 until 2020, the club's Vocational Committee selected a specific vocational area for awards, such as the retail sector, education, health, or apprentices,” she said.

“However, in 2020, we decided to go out to employers in our community and ask them to nominate worthy recipients from their own business or employment sector.”
