Seven talented athletes have been given the opportunities to push their wares higher in 2024 following the release of Bendigo and North Central represen-tative teams in both football and netball.

Maryborough duo Taj Bond and Kaian Constable have both been selected to represent the Bendigo Pioneers under 18 boys in 2024.

The duo made an impressionable impact in 2023, with Bond playing multiple games in the Pioneers setup, while Constable made a late debut.

Bond was also a star for Maryborough in his senior games with the club, with the highlight an impressive four-goal haul against Kangaroo Flat in the kind of performance which saw him awarded the Bendigo Football Net-ball League’s (BFNL) Rising Star.

Meantime, Constable was also an impressive performer across the club’s under 18 campaign.

The Magpies’ trio of Zac Cicchini, Logan Howell and Campbell Wood have also been selected to the Bendigo Pioneers under 16 boys squad.

Cicchini was an obvious choice after taking out the under 16s best and fairest in a stellar campaign, while Howell and Wood both impressed at both ends of the ground, with Howell the leading goalkicker in the 2023 campaign, while Wood was a terrific defender across the season in 2023.

In the under 16 girls team, Carisbrook’s Rhani Evans was selected in the team.

Evans enjoyed a stellar 2023 in which she was named in the Lady Redbacks’ best players on six occasions from her 13 games, and is the only member of the team to make it to the Bendigo setup.

In netball, Ella Patten was successful in making it to the North Central state titles team.

After an incredible 2023 which saw Patten win the Carol Sing Medal for the BFNL under 17 best and fairest, Patten will look to continue taking her game to new levels in the under 17 North Central setup.
