Local voters return ballot packs ahead of deadline
Nearly 70 percent of eligible residents in the Central Goldfields Shire have cast their vote in the 2024 council elections — with only a couple of hours left until voting closes.
Locals who are yet to make their voice heard must make sure to mail their ballot paper or drop it off at the election office before 6 pm today or risk paying a $99 fine.
As of around 10 am yesterday, out of the five wards being contested Maryborough North had the highest percentage of votes returned at 73.40 percent, with Maryborough East coming in at the bottom with 65.21 percent.
Voters in the Maryborough West and Tullaroop wards were not sent a ballot pack as those seats were uncontested.
That leaves 10 candidates still vying for a spot — and every vote counts.
After voting closes today, locals will only have to wait until November 15 to find out the results of the elections.
If you need to drop off your vote in person, visit the Central Goldfields Shire Council Election Office at the former Visitor Information Centre, on 53 Burns Street, Maryborough.
