Local triathletes celebrated
The Maryborough and District Triathlon Club recently celebrated its achievements, both as a club and on an individual level, at the 2025/26 Club Championship Presentation Dinner.
The club was pleased to produce yet another exciting year of triathlon competition and participation including its popular KIDZ triathlon for the region’s budding young triathletes.
The club’s championships were highly contested with several categories producing close results and little separating winners from the second and third place-getters.
In the Open Male championship, it was Josh Britten who produced yet another stellar season to achieve a four-peat victory after celebrating his first open victory in 2022/23.
Ella Govan, who has just graduated out of the U16 category, enjoyed a strong start to her open triathlon career, taking out the 2025/26 Open Female champion-ship, as she continues to go from strength to strength in the sport of triathlon.
The 50+ Female category was won by renowned Ironwoman Jane Anderson, as she competed in club events in between Ironman events in Cairns, Wollongong, Hawaii, and Busselton. The 50+ Male category was won by local triathlon stalwart Martin Mark after a consistent season.
The club was also excited to recognise Jeff Beer’s outstanding season at a state triathlon level where he was crowned the club’s first ever state champion after winning the 2025/26 Victorian 45-49 Male Triathlon championship.
“It was another great season of triathlon participation and performance with many members showing outstanding improvement in their triathlon form throughout the season,” club secretary Jenny Barras said.
Best Club Person was awarded to club championship coordinator and social media manager Adam Lowery for his outstanding service to the club, and this was shared with experienced event marshal Aaron Britten who consistently volunteered his time to ensure all participants had a safe and enjoyable event experience.
Maryborough and District Triathlon Club president Mark expressed his gratitude for the club’s dedicated group of volunteers.
“The ongoing success of the club depends on the vital support of its club volunteers, and Adam and Aaron are role models to so many,” he said.
“The club would really like to thank all its volunteers, supporters, and sponsors for their support, without this the club could not provide the participation opportunities and outcomes that it does for the local community.”
The club now moves onto a new season and has produced its 2026/27 calendar of events with the first event being a duathlon from the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre on Sunday, August 9.
