Community members Fiona Silver, Bronwen Haywood, Tony Macer and Liesbeth Long are encouraging residents to register for next week’s sustainability forum.

Community members will be given an insight into how they can cut energy bills and save money in their homes at next week’s renewable energy and home sustainability forum.

The forum will feature guest speakers including Don Culvenor from Renewable Newstead, Frank Forster from Enviroshop and Bendigo Sustainability Group representatives showcasing how residents can better save on their home bills through sustainable approaches.

Maryborough Climate Action Group convenor Tony Macer said the forum was an opportunity for residents to hear from experts in their fields on how to save money, while also reducing their environmental footprint.

“We’re really hopeful to get as many people in the shire as possible to register and attend the forum next week,” he said.

“It’s an opportunity for residents to become better informed about community-run renewable energy and sustainability.”

Mr Macer said it is hoped the forum will help better position the shire to access government initiatives that develop community renewable energy and make household power more affordable.

“We want to be on the front foot as a shire but we also want to help people with ways to reduce their home energy costs,” he said.

“That’s the crux of what this forum is about, we really want people to come to this not only because they will be able to save money as a result of this forum, but because it will help prepare us for the renewable energy possibilities to come.”

The forum is part of Climate Conversation Month, which has seen a series of community conversations take place throughout the shire where residents have discussed their views and thoughts on climate change.

The forum will take place next Wednesday, October 26 at the Maryborough Education Centre Library from 7 pm.

Registrations are essential and can be made by heading to www.eventbrite.com/e/423086251367.
