The Terry Floyd Foundation have shown continued support for local schools and students, donating $500 to 12 schools in the Central Goldfields Shire.
The donations are given to rural schools who then decide for themselves how to use the money. Schools have used the $500 in the past to support students transition to high school, supply sporting equipment or educational books.
The foundation was founded in March 2019in memory of Terry Floyd, the 12-year-old Maryborough boy believed to have been abducted and murdered in 1975.
Foundation president and Terry’s brother Daryl Floyd said the foundation will continue to provide futures for local kids.
“It is all about helping and supporting the community, these donations mostly support the more remote schools within the district,” Mr Floyd said.
“We find that they don’t get as much support as the bigger schools and we want to give every kid the opportunity to reach their full potential and their dreams which unfortunately Terry was never able to do.”
The foundation also has a continued partnership with Dymocks Children’s Charities to run local Mobile Area Resource Centre (MARC) vans, mobile libraries which deliver resources to schools in the district.
Timor Primary School principal Andrew Tatchell said the school is very thankful for the foundations’ support for a third year running.
“We are very excited to again be receiving this donation that we use as a scholarship for one of our year six students who has aspiration and commitment in the community,” he said.
“This is our largest scholarship we have at Timor Primary School and supports the family massively as their kid transitions to secondary school.
“The work Daryl and the team are doing to come back and support small schools in our community is so valuable in building brighter futures for the next generation.”
Dunolly has also received $500 from the Terry Floyd foundation which they have used to buy new sporting equipment.
