A handful of events are on offer for older residents next week as the Victorian Seniors Festival makes its return, with residents encouraged to get involved in local activities.
Now in its 41st year, the festival makes its return throughout October with an emphasis on fun and good times for seniors throughout Victoria, including locally.
There are four events set to take place close to home for residents, with the Maryborough Croquet Club inviting locals to come and try their hand at the sport, the Maryborough Senior Citizens Club will host an open day and afternoon tea and live music will take to the Clunes Town Hall.
Maryborough Senior Citizens Club president Veronika Miles said the club organises an event for most years as it was a way of bringing the community together.
“It’s a really good opportunity to bring people in our community together,” she said.
“We’re having a free afternoon tea and people can come and see what we’re all about, the activities we hold here and enjoy music from the community choir, the Serendipity Singers.
“We’re always eager to have more people involved and the Serendipity Singers are the same, so everyone is welcome to come along, enjoy the day and see what we’re all about.”
While the festival runs throughout October across the state, details of the local events are:
• Come and try croquet — Wednesday, October 4 from 9 am to 12 pm at 32 Station Street Maryborough. Players of all abilities welcome.
• Senior Citizens Club afternoon tea — Wednesday, October 4 from 2 until 4 pm at 52A Alma Street, Maryborough.
• Rock legends John Wood and Dave Allen will give a free concert at the Maryborough Highland Society on Friday, October 6 at 1.30 pm.
• Canyon Dust supported by the Melbourne University Opera Singers — Tuesday, October 17 from 11.30 am until 2 pm at the Clunes Town Hall. Country folk bank Canyon Dust along with the opera singers will perform well-loved tunes and original tracks.
