Local brigade hosts open day
The Bowenvale Fire Brigade is set to throw open its doors to the community this weekend, hosting an open day for residents to come and see what a rural fire brigade is all about.
Taking place this Sunday, November 3, the open day provides an opportunity for residents to learn more about CFA and what the Bowenvale Fire Brigade does, according to Captain Allan Monk.
“We hold these open days for community exposure and to show the community that the brigade is accessible, and there are people here,” he said.
“It gives community members the opportunity to come and meet brigade members and see what we’re all about.
“Prior to the fire season starting, it also gives us an opportunity to talk to people about fire prevention and offer advice before summer.”
The day is set to offer activities for the whole family, with a sausage sizzle, information session, tours of the fire station and firefighting appliances, giveaways, target shooting with firefighting hoses and even a visit from CFA’s Captain Koala on the cards.
Captain Monk said the open day also serves as a way to encourage new members to join the brigade.
“If people are interested in joining the brigade we’re always open, we’ve had six new members join in the last year or so which is fantastic, but the door is always open for more,” he said.
The Bowenvale Fire Brigade’s open day will take place from 11 am until 2 pm this Sunday, November 3 at 558 Timor Road, Bowenvale.
