HARCOURT (81) def CAMPBELLS CREEK (31)

A devastating second quarter burst helped Harcourt romp to a 50-goal victory over Campbells Creek on Saturday, allowing the Lions to move into the top four at Lexton’s expense, while all but consigning the Magpies out of finals contention.

Such was the performance from the Lions, their 81 goals was their best return this season to this point, while importantly, they were also able to maintain pressure on Carisbrook in the battle for third.

A good start by the Lions allowed them to open up a 13-goal lead at the first change, having scored 23 goals to the Magpies’ 10.

However, it was the second quarter which showed the league that they are a bona fide threat for this season’s premiership, with the Lions scoring 28 goals while restricting Campbells Creek to just three, allowing them to have the game sewn up at half time with a 51-13 lead.

Shellshocked, Campbells Creek came out after the main break and proved to be a much more competitive outfit in the third quarter, restricting Harcourt to 14 third quarter goals while scoring 10 of their own. However, it was not enough to prevent the Lions from taking a 65-23 lead at the final break.

The Lions finished full of running, scoring 16 goals to eight in the final quarter to eventually run out 81-31 winners.

Tayla Gale, Stacey Mitchell and Chelsey Collinson were best on court for Harcourt, while Megan McKay was dominant inside the goal circle, scoring on 42 occasions.

For Campbells Creek, Nikki Bell and Shakira Clark were amongst the better players, while Lillie Wrigley led the way with 16 goals.
