A fun and festive environment was on the menu for visitors at the Maryborough Harness Racing Club as the free luncheon ensured all residents could have a jolly Christmas.

Carisbrook Lions Club president Jefferson Hoober said the festivities continue to be a heart-warming event embraced by all.

“We had 299 people booked in with 33 locals who were picked up in our buses around town,” he said.

“We ended up catering for about 350 people, we had about 45 volunteers on the day which was fantastic.

“Everyone was smiling and so grateful for not having to stay home alone and to have a great Christmas.

“It puts a smile on our face and you get emotional when we see that you are making people happy.”

Alongside their marquee Christmas event, the Carisbrook Lions Club hosted a New Year’s Eve celebration at Station Domain on Tuesday.

Around 500 people enjoyed the family friendly activities and community concert as the clock struck midnight on 2024.

According to Mr Hoober, the community’s willingness to engage and lend a hand to events such as Christmas with Us and New Year’s Eve ensures they can continue.

“We thank everyone who jumped on board and helped our Lions Club out to run these events because if we didn’t have the sponsors or volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to put on these fun events,” he said.

“We are always looking for extra helpers, whether you want to join the Lions Club or if you just want to come along and help out at different events, jump on board.

“You might have an idea you want to do in our community and we can have a crack at it and try to put on more events for our local shire.”
