For the first time in 35 games, Harcourt were responding to a loss, but the Lions were driven to sweep aside the Maryborough Giants at Hedges Oval to keep the pressure on the ladder-leading Natte Bealiba.

In some respects, it was a hard-fought win for the Lions, who had to do a lot of work to maintain the lead in the first half, but their class showed in the second half with 11 goals to four after the main break.

A high-scoring opening stanza saw seven goals kicked between both teams, with Harcourt taking the early edge with four goals to three to lead by seven points.

The scoring dried up in the second term, however, and goals were a lot harder to come by. Nevertheless, the Lions took honours in the second term by kicking two goals to one, yet the Giants were still right in the frame, trailing by 14 points at the main break.

The game opened up again in the third quarter, with the Lions kicking five goals for the term, while the Giants kicked three. It would be Harcourt which established a 29-point break as a result.

The Lions finished full of running, kicking six goals to one in the final quarter to eventually blow the margin out.

The Anderson brothers, Cameron and Nathan, would have a dominant afternoon, kicking seven goals between them, with Cameron best on ground, while Jordan Gartside, Jesse Barilari, Lachlan Mitchell and Carl Thiesz also named in the best. Braydon Vaz would also kick three for the Lions.

For the Giants, Seth Hoskin, Lachlan Bates, Beau and Riley Govan, Blake Dawson and Kaylab Eggers were all named in the best, with Eggers kicking three goals to lead the way for the Giants.
