LEXTON (52) def ROYAL PARK (42)
While Lexton won the battle of the Tigers on Saturday afternoon, they still had to deal with losing their hold on the double chance thanks largely to Harcourt’s massive win over Campbells Creek, such is the closeness of the season.
Much like Harcourt’s win, however, Lexton’s victory came largely as a result of a second quarter burst which allowed them to keep Royal Park at arms-length throughout the entirety of the second half.
Lexton got the better of Royal Park in the first quarter as they got out to a three-goal lead, scoring 14 goals to 11.
The second quarter saw Lexton sneak away, however, as they piled on 15 goals while restricting Royal Park to just eight, resulting in a 29-19 lead at half time.
Lexton were able to maintain their gap throughout the third quarter in what was a tight affair, scoring 12 goals to Royal Park’s 11 to ensure they’d turn for home leading 41-30.
Royal Park won their only quarter of the day in what was almost a replica of the third quarter, themselves scoring 12 goals to Lexton’s 11 to reduce the margin slightly. Lexton proved too strong, however, and took the premiership points with a 52-42 victory.
For Lexton, Caitlin Howell, Evelyn Reid and Julia Parkin were named their best, while Rachel Phelan scored 29 goals.
Abbey Devereaux, Alisha Hovey and Lucy Morcom were Royal Park’s best, with Devereaux leading the way in the goal circle with 21 goals.
