NEWSTEAD (28) def by LEXTON (72)
Lexton have maintained their status as a genuine contender of the A grade competition by taking care of Newstead by 44 goals on Saturday.
Next week will be an early chance for the Tigers to show how much of a contender they will be when they face Avoca, but they certainly did not do their chances any harm with a professional display.
A fast start was the key for Lexton, who scored 23 goals in the opening term compared to Newstead’s seven to lead by 16 goals at the first break.
They continued on with the job in the second term, scoring 20 goals to six to extend their lead to 30 goals at half time.
To Newstead’s credit, they were able to limit the damage in the second half, starting with their third term, where they restricted Lexton to 15 goals, while scoring seven themselves.
The Kangaroos’ best quarter was the last quarter, as they held Lexton to 14 goals and scored eight themselves, but it was the Tigers’ day as they warmed up for their qualifying final in two weeks’ time.
Rachel Phelan scored 44 goals, while Leesa Donhardt added 23 for the Tigers, while Verity Gartside scored 22 goals for Newstead.
