If ever there was a potential turning point in a season, this might have been it for Lexton.
Sitting two games outside the top eight at the start of the day, a gritty victory over Talbot allowed them to close within one game of the top eight — with the Tigers coming from behind to boot.
But it was Lexton who got the better start, kicking three goals while holding the Hawks to just four behinds to lead by 16 points at the first change.
Talbot came back in the second quarter, however, this time kicking three goals themselves, while holding Lexton to four behinds to tie things up by the main break.
A high scoring third quarter followed, with Lexton kicking three goals, but Talbot responded in kind with four majors to hit the front, sitting three points clear at the final break.
With the season on the line, Lexton had a big fourth quarter, kicking the only goal while rendering Talbot scoreless to eventually take a tense seven-point win.
There were just three goalkickers for the Tigers, but it’s hard to deny that they did some damage, with Jesse Overall, in his second game for the club, kicking three goals, while Josh Sargent and Alex McLean kicked two goals apiece.
McLean, Tom Cullinan, Jordan Phelan, Sargent, Justin Hobson and Overall were named the Tigers’ best.
The Hawks named Kallan Boucher, Darcy Osborne, Matthew York, Sam Hitchings, Trent Barras and Luke Kemp as their best players, with Matthew Bond kicking three goals.
