Lexton needed a statement on their home court to keep in touch with the top four. Eighty-nine goals and a 59-goal win against Dunolly later, it’s safe to say the Tigers are still well in the hunt.

The Tigers’ experience and goalscoring power was too telling at Lexton Reserve, controlling the pace of play all afternoon, all-but wiping out the Eagles’ finals chances.

Lexton made a strong start, scoring 18 goals to seven in the first quarter to take an 11-goal lead into the first break. Rachel Phelan scored 11 goals and Leesa Donhardt seven, while for Dunolly, Kate Ashman scored four goals and Zoe Aldridge three.

Lexton took complete command in the second quarter, and scored 26 goals for the term to Dunolly’s nine to lead 44-16 at the main break. Phelan scored 15 goals and Donhardt 11 for the Tigers, while for Dunolly, Aldridge scored five and Ashman four.

The Tigers continued on their way in the third quarter, scoring 20 goals to six to increase the lead to 64-22 by the final change. Phelan scored 13 goals and Donhardt seven for Lexton, while for Dunolly, Aldridge and Ashman scored three each.

The Tigers finished full of running, scoring 25 goals to eight to finish with a strong offensive performance which, crucially, saw them also boost their percentage in their battle with Carisbrook for fourth. Phelan had a day out, scoring 11 goals in the final term to finish with 50 for the day, while Donhardt had 14 goals to finish with 39 of her own. Dunolly never stopped fighting, with Ashman scoring five goals to finish with 16, while Aldridge scored three to finish with 14.

Lexton will look to continue their hot form when they take on Trentham, while Dunolly face a difficult task in hosting Carisbrook.
