With the Lions amid a rebuild and the Tigers vying for a top-four finish, the Tigers were keen to take control of the contest from the opening centre pass.

However, it was Harcourt who grabbed the early 13-8 advantage with some impressive shooting even after Lauren Peeler was substituted.

While Lexton’s shooting duo were shooting at 50 percent, former Campbells Creek player Jordan Bagley hit the ground running for her new team, making eight goals from nine shots in the first quarter.

Keen to get the game back in their favour, the Tigers increased their defensive pressure, allowing only six shots on their goal all quarter while giving regular opportunities for Anna Parry and Leesa Donhardt to find their touch.

An 11-5 second quarter for Lexton allowed them to snatch the lead from Harcourt before half-time, with the score reading 19-18 at the main break.

Determined to keep the motivated Lions at bay, the Lexton defence led by Sarah Griffin and Brodey Mckay stepped into another gear, proving to be the difference maker for the Tigers who won the third quarter 11-3 to further the lead to nine goals.

With Harcourt still in the game, especially with Bagley’s form, Lexton placed Celeste Lean in the goal circle for Donhardt to try and give them an offensive spark.

The change worked wonders, as Lean scored 10 from 11 shots to allow the Tigers to pull away with a 15-8 final term.

Parry was the game’s top scorer with 25 goals from 48 shots, while Lexton teammate Donhardt scored eight goals with a 50 percent conversion rate.

Bagley impressed for Harcourt with 17 goals from just 20 shots, with Gemma Papadimos and Peeler supporting her efforts with eight and four goals respectively.
