LEXTON (83) def CAMPBELLS CREEK (45)

Lexton’s offensive power was on full display when they hosted Campbells Creek on Saturday, equalling the highest tally seen in 2023 so far with their 38-goal victory.

Their 83-goal effort matched Natte Bealiba’s big win over Newstead in round six, but more importantly, with Dunolly losing their game to Harcourt, it means that the Tigers have now extended their advantage inside the top four to a game and significant percentage, and can all but seal the double chance this weekend in their game against the Eagles.

On evidence of their game against Creek, they will certainly take some beating.

The Tigers added 19 goals in the first quarter to Creek’s 13, but their second quarter saw them score on 27 occasions.

Creek were admirably keeping up, scoring 12 times to stay within 21 goals at the main break.

Creek’s best quarter was their third quarter, with both teams scoring on 12 occasions to keep the margin rooted at 21 at the final change.

But Lexton weren’t prepared to take any mercy, scoring 25 goals in the last quarter to Creek’s eight to eventually record a big win.

Rachel Phelan dominated inside the goal circle, scoring 55 goals, while Leesa Donhardt added 27, and for Campbells Creek, Lillie Wrigley scored 26 goals, and Jordan Bagley 19.
