Lexton sought a big result against Campbells Creek to maintain their top four push, and achieved that as they held the Magpies goalless in a 139-point victory at Campbells Creek Recreation Reserve.
A nine-goal haul from Tyler Trickey was the ticket for the Tigers, who were able to build their lead throughout the first three quarters, before it was party time in the last as they put it all together to score 10 goals.
Five goals in the opening quarter allowed the Tigers to lead by 34 points at the first change, but to Campbells Creek’s credit, they were able to be competitive in the second term, and held the Tigers to two goals in the second term.
The Tigers didn’t quite have their kicking boots on in the third term, kicking four goals from 10 scoring shots, while the Magpies added one behind to trail by 78 points at the last change.
But the aforementioned 10-goal last quarter allowed the Tigers to not only push past the 100-point barrier, but they also importantly increased their percentage, which could yet be crucial in their fight to make the top four.
Pearce and Joel Antonio were dominant for the winners, while Luke Arvidson played a key role. Trickey’s nine goals, Bryce Karslake and Billy Briody were also noticed by coaches Dylan Lewis and Dylan Bourke.
Campbells Creek will be disappointed they weren’t able to hit the scoreboard for the first time this year, but Nicholas O’Brien gave it his all as always, while Kyle Gellatly, Justin Allison, Hadley Bassett, James Martinovic and captain Sean Moss were named in the best.
