LEXTON 18.12 (120) def MARYBOROUGH ROVERS 5.5 (35)
A dominant second half allowed Lexton to take an 85-point victory over Maryborough Rovers, consolidating their spot in the top eight ahead of a crucial final three rounds of the season.
While they do have to play the reigning premiers next week, the Tigers can seal their spot if they can take victory against Newstead and Avoca as a result of their win on Saturday.
The Tigers got off to the best start imaginable with a three-goal to three-behind opening quarter, allowing them to dictate terms early with a 19-point lead.
To Rovers’ credit, they were able to fight back in the second term, and asked many questions of Lexton, but every time they were able to hit the scoreboard, the Tigers had all the answers. Four goals to three allowed them to extend their lead to 25 points at the main change.
A dominant third term allowed Lexton to end the contest, kicking four goals to no score to move 52 points clear at the final change, and finished off the game strongly, kicking seven goals to two to eventually blow the margin out.
Jesse Overall kicked five goals in a best on ground performance, and he was supported by Jordan Phelan, James Templeton, Thomas Cullinan, Dan Wrigley and Josh Sargent. Tyler Trickey was also a good contributor, kicking four goals.
For Rovers, Jacob Dyer, Joel Radlof, Marshall Murray, Mont-gomery Reeves, Bailey Evans and Sam Powell worked hard, while Kai Weller kicked two goals.
