MARYBOROUGH ROVERS 4.10 (34) def by LEXTON 13.10 (88)
It has been a tough season for Maryborough Rovers, who have gone through the season winless after Lexton handed them their final loss by 54 points at Jubilee Oval on Saturday.
Despite the loss, one could be forgiven for thinking that Rovers may finally break through for their first victory after kicking three goals to two in the first quarter, and continuing to hold their advantage going into the main break with a two-point lead.
But the Tigers came out firing after half time and a six-goal term to nil put the game well and truly back in the hands of the visitors, as they looked to warm up for their elimination final match-up with Maldon next weekend.
Another four goals in the final term sealed the fate of Rovers’ difficult season, with the club taking the wooden spoon as a result of this loss.
Jordan Phelan was again outstanding across half back for the second week in succession, while Bryce Karslake and Jake Eyers were incredibly good at ground level.
Pat McGuigan finished off their clever work with four goals along with Eyers who slotted five in the Tigers victory.
Alex Mahony and Andy Siekai were named as Rovers better players along with Kaylab Eggers, Mitch Whelan, Monty Reeves, and Liam Radlof also giving their all for the home team with Whelan kicking three goals.
