DUNOLLY 12.15 (87) def by LEXTON 14.9 (93)

An extraordinary day at Deledio Reserve saw Lexton come from behind to break Dunolly hearts, moving into seventh on the ladder with a one-goal victory.

The Eagles, for large parts of the afternoon, had control of the game, and virtually led from the start right up until the last couple of minutes.

After the Tigers kicked the first goal, the Eagles hit back with the next three to open up a 13-point lead going into the first break.

A tight second quarter saw the floodgates open up a little bit, with the Eagles kicking three goals, and the Tigers kicking four goals to narrowly win the quarter.

With the lead sitting at nine points at the main break, the Eagles made their biggest move of the afternoon to kick four goals to two, and open up a 20-point lead going into the last change.

But Lexton found another gear in the last quarter, and kicked seven goals to two — including three in the last few minutes of the game — to pinch victory from the jaws of defeat.

The win was of incredible importance to the Tigers, who still have to face a crunch month of football, which includes games against Rovers, Harcourt, Newstead and a much-improved Avoca in their hunt to lock up a finals spot.

At the other end of the spectrum, it was a devastating blow to the Eagles’ chances of playing finals, and with Avoca, Natte Bealiba, Maldon and Carisbrook in their final four games, face an uphill battle to make the finals.

At the time of publication, neither best players nor goalkickers were provided for either team.
