Lexton back on the board after toppling Dunolly

A sense of relief and pent-up celebration was in the air when the final siren bellowed at Lexton Reserve, as the Tigers snapped their four-game losing rut by earning a 15-point victory against the Dunolly Eagles.

The Tigers’ opening goal came just 42 seconds into the game from a Tyler Trickey mark and goal.

Ten minutes later, Patrick Gleeson took the ball out of a ruck contest and snapped truly, which was followed by a mark on the lead to Lachy Rokebrand from a Jacob Trevenen pass.

Rokebrand’s goal had the Tigers up and about, and shortly after, the Tigers’ fourth goal of the game had them leading by 25 points at quarter time.

The first goal of the second term went to the Tigers Jackson Kurzman from an Eagles turnover just two minutes into the second quarter.

Now well and truly on the back foot, the Eagles answered the challenge and slotted the next three goals through Bailey Wingrave, Jake Gavriliadis and Liam Freeman before Lexton youngster Jeff Debast kicked a long goal for the Tigers.

Dunolly reduced the margin to 10 points at half time.

Goals were at a premium in the third term, with Pat Parr and James Templeton the only goal scorers as Lexton held Dunolly to just one behind to lead by 22 points at three-quarter time.

Tyler Trickey kicked a long bomb forward just two minutes into the final quarter to Parr and the resultant goal made it a 28-point ball game.

Dunolly kept fighting, kicking another three goals, but it was to no avail as the Tigers ran out victors.

Rokebrand was named the Tigers’ best player along with Matthew Smith-Bye and Jordan Madafferi.

Others who played well were Bryce Karslake, Jaykeb Lench and Keltyn Rinaldi.

Dunolly’s coach Jay McDonald had another great game, along with the consistent Lachlan Tranter, Daniel Trull and Dylan Burt.

Jack Merrin and Jackson Goodwin were others to be named among the better players.
