Dunolly Blue and Talbot Brown are through to the Saturday pennant grand finals in division one and two in vastly different circumstances.
Dunolly Blue had to fight their way back from the brink halfway through the game, while Talbot Brown dictated terms from the outset to record a comfortable victory over Carisbrook.
Talbot Gold got off to a hot start in the division one preliminary final, at at the halfway point, were looking good on all three ends, leading on each.
But an incredible run on the third rink, which saw Tony Galofaro and his crew take 22 consecutive shots, allowed Dunolly Blue a passage back into the game, and hit the front late in the piece.
Talbot Gold needed to take two shots on the final end to keep their season alive, but it wasn’t to be, as some strong bowling saw Dunolly Blue hold on, despite losing two of the rinks.
Galofaro’s 31-12 win over Peter McLaughlan proved to be the difference, while for Talbot Gold, Peter Fletcher defeated Barry Cann 25-14, and Paul Radstock defeated Peter Waters 22-16.
In division two, Talbot Brown dominated two of their rinks to ensure that they would take a 66-41 win.
Barb Crossley’s rink was most dominant, taking a 27-5 win over Ron Baker, while Ian Pryor further cemented Talbot Brown’s advantage with a 23-15 win over Malcolm Milne.
While Carisbrook took back some ground with Ross Gregory’s 21-16 win over Darren McCleary, it was Talbot Brown’s day.
It now means both division one and two’s grand finals have been set up, with Highland Tartan set to meet Dunolly Blue in a rematch of last year’s decider.
Tartan will be looking for a hat-trick of premierships, while Dunolly Blue, as minor premier, will be hoping to reclaim the premiership that they last won in 2021.
In division two, Highland Red will meet Talbot Brown for the premiership.
Both games are set to be played at Avoca on Saturday.
Meantime, the preliminary final for the midweek pennant will be played this morning at the Highland Society.
Once again, Talbot will meet Dunolly Blue, with the reigning premiers looking to bounce back after their loss to Highland Tartan last week, while Talbot will be looking for a pathway into the grand final, especially after Saturday’s defeat.
