Land feedback encouraged
The community are invited to have their say on how land should be used locally as Central Goldfields Shire Council consider how best to develop the region going forward.
At the July council meeting, councillors moved the Urban Residential Land Opportunity Study (URLO) and the draft Maryborough North, Flagstaff and Carisbrook Land Use Framework Plan be made available for public consultation until August 26.
The former report, URLO, is a review of the shire’s rural living zones around Maryborough and Carisbrook to see if there’s potential to subdivide further to accommodate the area’s growing population.
The latter report, the land use framework plan, offers clear direction on land suitable for future housing and industry across the three townships.
Councillor Anna De Villiers said these reports, alongside new heritage overlays intended to free up Maryborough for redevelopment, will guide council going forward.
“I think it’s really exciting that three of them coincide like this because it affords a unique opportunity to take a minute to reflect on where we’re heading and what we want to do with the land that we have in the shire,” she said.
Both reports are available to be viewed from July 28 to August 26 with various opportunities to provide feedback.
Councillor Geoff Bartlett encouraged the community to have their say, specifically those in industrial zones and developers, in the coming weeks.
“This is the time to have your say. Speak up now and let your thoughts be known,” he said.
There will also be four community workshops this month as well as targeted discussions with key landholders and stakeholders. Members of the consultant team and council officers will be available at all sessions.
