Carisbrook will have a first since their return to the Ballarat Football League Women’s competition when they host a Friday night match against East Point.
It seems the Lady Redbacks have picked the perfect time to try it to generate momentum after scoring their first victory of the season against Bacchus Marsh last week.
Despite coming into the game two games behind Bacchus Marsh on the ladder, who were flying high in third, Carisbrook had control for a large portion of the day, kicking two of the first three goals in the first term, before a tight struggle ensued, with the Cobras nosing their way in front by a solitary point at the final change.
Bacchus Marsh then kicked the first goal of the last to move seven points clear, but Carisbrook were determined to score their first win of the season, and overpowered the Cobras to kick the last three goals of the game to win by 13 points.
The Lady Redbacks’ total of 6.6 (42) was their highest since they had returned to the competition last season, and they’ll be determined to repeat the dose against East Point this time around after a loss in round one.
On that occasion, Carisbrook were right in the game up until half time, trailing by just four points, but the Kangaroos kicked clear in the third quarter, kicking two goals to move 18 points in front at the final change, before easing to a 23-point win.
But with more continuity, the sparkling form of the likes of Grace Brady, Olivia Butler, Anika Munn and Julianne Baldock, and a home crowd ready to cheer on the Lady Redbacks, Carisbrook will be determined to perhaps score a second straight win and move off the bottom of the ladder.
Meantime, the under 16 girls had a tough task on Sunday against Storm, losing by 51 points.
Three goals to no score in the second term helped Storm clear away to a 32-point lead at the main change, before adding another two goals to move 46 points clear at the final change.
Carisbrook were able to hold Storm to a solitary goal, while kicking their first two points of the day in the last term, but it wasn’t enough.
Tamika Loone-Grundy was best for Carisbrook, readily joined by Chloe Wyatt, Amber Hogarth, Emme Johnson, Remi Jardine and Tahlia Jordan.
The under 16s will welcome Darley to Carisbrook Recreation Reserve on Sunday morning as they seek their first win of the season.
