Carisbrook will take centre stage on Saturday afternoon, taking to the field against Darley, with the club hoping for a big crowd given their men’s team will have the bye.
The Lady Redbacks jumped on the opportunity to shift their game from Sunday to Saturday, and although it will be a difficult task to unsettle the Devils, the club has, at least, continued to show their competitive traits.
Although they lost to Redan by 154 points last week, the Lady Redbacks had to contend with arguably a full-strength Lions side who welcomed back VFLW players, making their task much more difficult.
However, there were some major positives.
Their third quarter showcased the club’s fighting spirit, conceding just four goals after 12 were scored on them in the opening half.
Anika Munn continued her outstanding season with her physicality at the contest proving to be a highlight, as did Olivia Butler, who continues to show her silky skills through the midfield.
The club will finally have the opportunity to show what they are made of against the Devils, with two long trips to their ground earlier in the season resulting in big losses.
In round three, Carisbrook went down by 207 points, while the return game in round six was not much better, losing by 192 points.
In the under 16s, the Lady Redbacks’ finals hopes were snuffed out after they lost to the Ballarat Swans by 64 points.
The game was a well-contested one early, with the Swans kicking two goals to one to lead by six points at the first change, but they put their foot down from the second quarter onwards, scoring two goals from 10 scoring shots to no score to take a 26-point lead into the main break.
The Swans continued to boss play in the second half, adding another three goals to no score to extend their lead to 51 points by the final change, before kicking three goals to one in the last term to eventually take a comfortable win.
Tahlia Jordan, Emma Mortlock, Eden Weaver, Imogen Raats, Laylah Smith and Olivia Rogers were the Lady Redbacks’ best, with Rhiannon Carter and Tiani Jardine their goalkickers.
The under 16s will now sit out this week with the bye, before reconvening next week against East Point.
